Hello health fans – Normally, we would start the month with a recipe. By now, you may have figured out our monthly rotation. First we talk about food, next we talk about supplements, and lastly, we talk about health. These three issues are ALL connected – and so is your body~! This is WHOLE HEALTH – that’s why they call this “whole”istic~!
Perhaps you have also figured out that I am an avid cyclist. I LOVE to ride my bike. After being a runner for around 20 years, and tearing my leg muscles (soleus), I had to find a new form of exercise – hence my bike. (Yes, I swim as well and have done a couple triathlons).
Our work at Straight Nutrition stems from a personal story about my mother and her struggle for health. Then the struggle became mine. I tell this story in the “about us” section of our website. Only through many years of diligent work was I able to overcome this generational struggle. Now it is my work. Because we continually look into people’s blood with our Comprehensive Nutritional Analysis, we are dealing with the end result of the accumulative process of everyday slight errors in judgment. This is the opposite of “healthcare” where a system tells you to be afraid of your body and give the responsibility to someone else. We call that fear-based. Our work is to empower people with the faith that their body’s response is correct to its condition. IN other words, YOUR job is to provide the RIGHT environment so your body can do what it was designed to do – THRIVE~!
So what is that RIGHT environment? Balanced food intake, exercise, proper sleep, healthy relationships with people, a healthy relationship with your maker, and a productive work in your life. Don’t let doctors tell you that the food has NOTHING to do with your health. Consider the source – look at their curriculum. We are talking about ONE very basic nutrition class. Of course they don’t think food has an affect – they never studied it~! That’s why you want to work with a nutritionist or at least someone who has studied food and it’s affects in the body (a naturopath).
As the natural health gateway for you to access professional quality nutritional products that would only be available through your doctor, we aim to assist you in achieving Vitality in your life at an affordable price. Part of the health care crisis is the fact that the ICD-9 (now ICD-10) codes need to change after they have billed the maximum number of CPT codes (procedures allowed for that diagnosis). Understand that part of a “wrong” diagnosis is the practitioner getting paid. Since now there are even MORE layers of people grabbing their little piece of YOUR healthcare, the price of healthcare through insurance is absorbent. A solution that is NOT EVEN being discussed is that you take responsibility for your health and invest your money (cash discounts CUT costs) in quality balanced food and supplements that fill nutritional deficiencies that are identified specific to YOUR needs. This is NOT brain surgery, it’s just STRAIGHT NUTRITION~!
I started this entire discussion today because I finally found an article that supports one of my biggest contentions. We are eating TOO MUCH – even athletes. Of course your trainers out there (whom have ALSO not studied nutrition) contend for the old “everything converts to glucose and athletes need it quick” therefore, eat sugar to fuel energy. Yet, we are looking in the blood and letting your bodies tell us what is missing and what is toxic. So, we take the guesswork out and we are not making diabetic athletes by promoting an old broken system or belief. Notice how the sugar cane has been refined like cocaine~! Take a look at “Sugar Shock” by Selene Yeager in the September 2013 issue of Bicycling.com. Selene agrees with our suggestions that Whole Foods First work better than the quick fix concentrated sugars that so many sports nutrition companies promote. “Eating a sugar bomb triggers blood-sugar fluctuations and imbalances of the hormones that regulate appetite, which can lead to overeating and fat gain, especially in our belly”. The article goes on to say, “… a lot of sugar in your daily diet also hinders your fat-burning metabolism both on and off the bike, so you’re less efficient in training”. I have always contended that when you fuel with high sugar supplements, you are creating the “bonk” because after the spike comes the drop. It becomes a vicious cycle of blood-sugar roller coaster which is extremely hard on your liver. Your liver has the job of converting and storing everything into glycogen . Your pancreas has the task of regulating through the use of a hormone called glucagon which signals the liver to release glycogen vs. store that
. Now your high sugar intake becomes connected to your hormonal balances/imbalances.
And now we have yet another new topic – natural hormone rejuvenation. We don’t replace hormones, we help you rejuvenate and balance the hormones your body makes. Our hormones work on a negative feedback cycle rather than a positive feedback cycle. IN other words, the more hormones you have the less the body needs to make. So if you PUT hormones in, the less your body will make and hence – a new condition arises. And that is you needing to continue putting hormones in because your body makes less. We feed your body with the building blocks (nutrition) so your body can chemically convert those to the hormones it needs. And that’s what your body does day in and day out – chemically converts to balance because it wants to thrive in what we call homeostasis. But that is a topic for another day. Hey – How is YOUR sugar intake? Are you hitting it too hard? Need some help finding YOUR balance? Schedule an appointment for a nutritional consultation so we can calculate and create YOUR perfect FOOD day. It’s a step in the RIGHT direction~!
